Review of SchoolhouseTeachers.com

SchoolhouseTeachers.com
The Yearly Membership from SchoolhouseTeachers.com, provided by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, is an extensive resource for homeschooling families. It offers video classes that you begin at any time and work through at your own pace. You can take advantage of their lesson planners, charts, and media library with 10,000+ streaming videos for your whole family to enjoy.

They offer 150 classes for Preschool through High School students, with many educational categories of classes to choose from. I found classes like “Reader’s Theater,” and “Simply Shakespeare” in the Drama and Speech category. In the Electives category you will find “Photography” and “Wildlife Adventures.” Don’t forget to check out the core subjects such as Math, Writing, and Foreign Languages and enjoy classes such as “Schoolhouse Spelling,” “Geology,” and “Dinosaurs and the Bible.”

SchoolhouseTeachers Review 2016
I admit that some subjects are more difficult for me to teach than others. Give me a gooey science experiment or a great read-aloud book and I’m all set. Computers and technology, on the other hand, are not my forte. Middle school classes such as “Computer Science and Programming,” “Experience Videomaking,” and “Web Game Design” will really help us out.

“Geography of the Bible” and “History of Christianity” is offered for high schoolers. Even though my oldest son is in middle school, we are going to dive into this together. I know that we both can learn from these classes. With links to other websites for more information, these courses will really enrich our school day.

One thing I appreciate is that all these classes are included with my yearly membership. I didn’t have to pay per class or per number of students. Wow! That freed me up to really beef up my curriculum without a high cost.

At this point in my exploration of the site, I was already pretty much sold on its value, but then I discovered the RightNow Media Library, a streaming video resource with 17 full classes on interesting subjects. I’m looking forward to the Preschool classes such as “Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Animals” and “Bible Stories for Young Hearts.” There are also movies that you can watch together as a family.

In the Resources for Members area they offered resources for parents/teachers, from record-keeping and class planning forms to menu preparation and recipes.

In the Just for Parents or the Whole Family section, I am looking forward to “Kinetic Connection” which is monthly units full of tips for helping your kinetic learner on subjects ranging from math to geography. Face it, most learners can benefit from more hands-on learning.

And I can’t wait to check out the Nutrition, Health, and Fitness classes offered. My 9-year-old son is a budding cook and is looking forward to taking a “Whole Foods Cooking with Sue Gregg” class.

I started the Apologetics: Creation vs. Evolution course with my 12-year-old. It is set up in a video lecture style class — honestly a little dry, but strong on information. Other classes, such as Read and Play for Pre-K, are available to print out and enjoy offline.

Also included in this package is a free membership to Homeschool Benefits Association, which offers discounts on car rentals, health insurance, and even pharmacy prescriptions.

All of this is included with the $13 a month membership (or you can take advantage of the discounted annual price of $139). You can read through the classes offered, check out the streaming Media Library and look through the planners and resources all before you become a member. Then, once a member, you will be able to access all the resourced offered.

I’m sure that you and your family will benefit from this extensive resource!
