Review of Drive Through History Adventures

If there is one thing you are going to add to your curriculum this year, homeschool video curriculum from Drive Thru History Adventures should be it!

Our family has always enjoyed the Drive Thru History DVDs and goofy antics of Dave Stotts, but the new Adventures program combines the DVD series and turns it into an amazing Bible, Ancient History, and Early American curriculum!

What are the Drive Thru History Adventures?

This is a digital program that sends you an email each week. But you have access to all the programs and curriculum, not just one a week. During each adventure you watch a video around 30 minutes long, answer some discussion questions, read background content, and learn about the Bible, Ancient History, and American History together; all from a Christ-centered approach. Amazing right? The more I dove into the Drive Thru History Adventures, the more impressed I was!

For 15 years, Dave Stotts and the Cold Water Media crew have been traveling to bring us fun, fact-filled, culturally engaging, history on location. Are you frustrated that your children are learning history from a secular view? Switch now to The Adventures and learn from a Christian perspective!

What is included The Drive Thru History Adventures?

Can you imagine learning geography, archeology, classic art, and Christian worldview all in the same curriculum? This is exactly what the Adventures do.

So much is included in this curriculum, but I’ll try to briefly introduce it all to you.

Dashboard: This is the first place to begin your adventure. Check here for the latest shows, specials, and documentaries. Want some ideas of how other families are using this resource or share your own? History is, in fact, made everyday, so check the Dashboard for all the latest information.

Curriculum: There are 3 sets of curriculum that you have access to through your digital subscription: The Gospels, American History, and Ancient History. The Drive thru the Holy Land is not available, but I have hopes that it will be soon.

Each lesson includes: a 30-minute video, some additional readings, printable worksheets with answer key, and discussion questions. This format really worked so well for my three boys ages 6, 11, and 14. Sam (6) watched the videos and took part in the discussion questions with us. Nate (11) completed the worksheet, and Josh (14) wrote a paragraph or two summarizing what was especially meaningful to him and how to relate it to his life today. See how excellent this is?

For example, what to Marco Polo, Genghis Khan, Paolo dal Pozzo Toscanelli, and Christopher Columbus have in common? Did you know that Christopher Columbus gave God the glory for his discoveries? Connects the dots of seemingly unrelated events and see how they were actually orchestrated by God to fulfill His will.

Or see video of the door where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis. Drive around Florence, Italy and learn about the impact people there had on the whole world.

Resources: The resource section has lots of articles to read for further study. For example, we learned the origins and purpose of Synagogs. You can download articles such as the Mayflower Compact, a letter from George Washington to Martha, or the Httite Peace Treaty.

Oh, and don’t forget the behind the scenes bloopers.

Be sure to take the Side Roads that contain articles such as Roman coins Related to the Gospels, the History of Groundhog Day, Martin Luther, and be sure to listen to Dave’s pick-up lines one the History of St. Valentine’s Day.

The Dig Deeper area contains articles and videos about such topic as The Advent Season, John Hancock Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, Jesus at the pool of Siloam, and more.

For example, we learned that on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles when no sacred water from the Pool of Siloam was poured onto the alter, Jesus stood up and proclaimed Himself the source of Living Water. What incredible symbolism. I have been a Christian most of my life and never knew this.

Drive Thru History is helping to engage and deepen my children’s relationship with Jesus through understanding the significance of the words Jesus said and the places He went and the miracles He preformed.

Community: This is an area where you can link to social media groups where members can ask questions, read comments, and post their experiences and ideas.

What is Adventure TV?

As if all this wonderful curriculum was not enough, Coldwater Media has also created a free app for your various devices to download and watch the videos. Wow! This has been great because when I need my kidos to be a little busy without me, now I have something educational, Biblical, and Historical to give them that they love!

Tired of the time-wasting games or videos that poison our children’s hearts? I sure am! So give them Adventure TV instead! I would rather have them devour Christian worldview information than memorize silly Disney songs. Wouldn’t you?

The app makes it easy to project videos onto TV’s using ChromeCast or Apple TV.

How did our family use Drive Thru History Adventures?

Our thoughts on Drive Thru History Adventures

As a homeschool family and a Christian, I strongly believe that the past is relevant in our present day. Historical and archeological discoveries continue to validate the Bible. And science just needs to catch up to what God has already told us.

So please, don’t underestimate the value of teaching your children Christian Worldview. Please prepare them for the lies and deception they will certainly encounter later in life. Don’t let your children be one of the majority of Christians who leave Christ after high school. Now is the time to act; now is the time to teach Truth to our children!

Drive Thru History Adventures is an excellent and reliable source that uses passages straight from the Bible to illustrate and discover our amazing God.

Drive Thru History is helping to engage and deepen my children’s relationship with Jesus through understanding the significance of the words Jesus said and the places He went and the miracles He preformed.
