The Children's Museum of Denver offers a variety of exciting playscapes designed for children from newborn through age eight. These play areas and exhibits engage children physically at the same time as they stimulate their minds and imaginations. Playscapes include a store, basketball court, lego room, playhouse, invention studio, and bugs underground. Children can dress in available costumes and all materials for crafts are included. Closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday. Museum closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Hop Skip & a Jump Start Sunday, September 19 Family-Friendly 5K starts at 9:00 a.m. , Mini-Meets and Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. Lace up your running shoes and hop, skip or jump over to the Children’s Museum of Denver’s 4th Annual family-friendly 5K run. You and your little ones will follow the scenic Platte River Trail, making music with your feet, leap-frogging hopscotch and dashing through a cloud of floating bubbles. After the race, children of all ages can participate in mini-meets including a Kid Course, Toddler Trot and Infant Crawl. Enjoy a day of fun-filled activities for the entire family! All proceeds support the Children’s Museum of Denver. Parade from one “Candy House” to the next collecting your goodies, whip up delicious “Dirty Desserts,” and craft classic Halloween heroes like “Noodle-Boned Skeletons” and “Little Miss Spiders.” After the inside fun, head outside to brave your chances at the Monster Carnival, hop on Vern’s Mini Train for spin around the plaza and stroll through Pumpkin Hill. And that’s just a taste! Programs Offered: Pajama Party Wednesday Nights! Wednesday Nights, 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Dress cozy in your favorite PJs and head on down to the Museum to play in our exhibits! There is nothing wrong with getting a little messy once on a while! This month, we will be painting, drawing, splashing, dipping and experimenting with art like never before! Grab a brush, smock and your imagination and come get messy with us! ARTS a la Carte This activity is set up in our art center all day every day. Finger Paints We’re throwing our paint brushes to the side! Who needs them when you can use your own digits!? Join us in creating some hand-some works of art! This program promotes fine motor and art skills. Backyard Explorers Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. Earth-Friendly Tie-Dye Roll up your sleeves because we’re mixing up pigments from berries to bark for an organic approach to a timeless craft! We’ll learn the art and history of creating dyes from the Earth. This activity promotes science, history, fine motor skills and logic. Clubhouse Capers Mondays and Fridays at 2:30 p.m. Express Yourself How do you see the world? Come learn how abstract artists use color and form to communicate, then create an abstract masterpiece of your own without using a paintbrush! This activity promotes art and fine motor skills. Facilitated ARTS a la Carte Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. Action Paintings* Join as we explore the painting techniques of the famous American artist, Jackson Pollock. We will pour, drip and splatter paint into large works of art! This program promotes large and fine motor skills, art, and social/ emotional development. *This activity will take place outside, weather permitting. Make Believe Matinee Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. Matinee Makeup This month we’re getting messy with makeup! With mirrors and face paints we will transform ourselves into monsters, clowns and other fun characters. This program promotes arts and fine motor skills. StoryTime Daily Kid’s imaginations will run wild hearing stories of far off lands, wacky characters, friendships and fairytales. Each one has a theme with stories and fun activities. This program promotes literacy and fine motor skills. Super Science Sunday, Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The Science of Ice Cream* On a warm August day, nothing is better than ICE CREAM. Eating the treat is just half of the fun. Become a food chemist and concoct your very own ice cream in celebration of getting messy! This activity promotes science, math, speech and social skills. *This program contains dairy products. Toddler Time Mondays at 11:00 a.m. Ready, Set, DOUGH This month, our love for messes and creativity will shine. Join us in making your very own squishy-squashy-mushy-mashy play dough! This program develops fine motor, math, speech and social skills. September is Our Diverse Community Month You don’t have to travel around the world to experience the many rich cultures that are all around us. Celebrate the community we live in and all of its diversity right here at home! Please note: The Museum will be closed for annual maintenance September 14th, 15th and 16th. Afternoon Adventures Mondays and Fridays at 2:30 p.m. Tea Time Care for a spot of afternoon tea? Come by Afternoon Adventures to sample teas from around the world and learn how it is enjoyed in different cultures. You'll even get to make your own tea blend to take home! This program promotes cultural awareness and nutrition. ARTS a la Carte™ This activity is set up in our art center all day every day. People Puppets Get creative with colors and supplies and make a “You Puppet.” Once your mini-you is finished, take it over to the puppet theater and put on a show for your grownups and friends. This program promotes artistic, fine motor and social skills. Backyard Explorers Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. Bear Tales Come take a closer look at bears and their relationship throughout history with Native American cultures. We’ll hear stories and learn what certain tribes thought about our denning friends. This program promotes science and artistic skills, and cultural awareness. Facilitated ARTS a la Carte Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The Colors of Us Using red, yellow, black, and white, learn how to mix colors to make skin tones. Take your hues and paint self and family portraits. This program promotes social, fine motor, and artistic skills, and math and logic. Make Believe Matinee Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. World Drum Circle Learn about different forms of percussion from around the world. Make your own instrument to use in rhythm games full of fun. This program promotes cultural awareness, fine motor and music skills. Become a geologists for the day and carefully crack open your own geode to take home! This program promotes science, math and logic. ToddlerTime Mondays at 11 a.m. Culture Club Dance on down and join our Culture Club! Discover diverse music from around the world and play along with fun and noisy instruments! This program promotes cultural awareness, musical, art and social skills. October is Boo-tiful Bugs Month Come investigate the fascinating world of entomology every day during October. Discover just how many types of dragonflies there really are, what makes a grasshopper bounce, and why the delicate Blue Hairstreak Butterfly is our official state insect. Afternoon Adventures - Grasshoppin’ Good Time! Mondays and Fridays at 2:30 p.m. What's that a-hoppin' through the grass? A grasshopper, of course! Join Afternoon Adventures this month as we learn about these fascinating insects, then create your own bouncy bug to take home. This program promotes literacy, science, art and fine motor skills. ARTS a la Carte - Build-a-Bug This activity is set up in our art center all day every day. All sorts of insects are crawling their way into ARTS a la Carte this month. Help these critters complete their looks! Mix and match your most beloved bugs into new and crazy creatures. This program promotes fine motor skills and art. ARTS a la Carte (Facilitated) - Spider Mobiles Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. Join us as we celebrate our eight-legged friends! We will make our very own spiders to take home and attach these arachnids to some oh-so silky webs! This program promotes fine motor skills, science and art. Backyard Explorers - Butterfly Bash Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays 2:30 p.m. Learn all about Colorado's state insect, the Blue Hairstreak Butterfly. Stop by to discover this rare beauty and make your own butterfly craft! This program promotes science, fine motor skills and art. Make Believe Matinee - Bug Motion Movie Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. Come learn about animation and make a simple stop-motion movie about bugs. We will use foam-noodle sculpting clay to make out very own cartoon stars to take home. This activity promotes science, fine motor skills and art. Super Science Sunday - Germ Busters Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Good germs, bad germs....germs are lurking everywhere! Become a Germ Buster and learn proper handwashing techniques after we make all the germs on our hands glow! This program promotes science.
